SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is a growing seafood processing company looking for an experienced and motivated Quality Measurement Technician to perform a variety of product testing to provide an objective measurement of overall salmon quality. The role may be expanded to include an off-season function in the final processing of Bristol Bay salmon in Bellingham, WA. As we grow, we’re looking for an all-hands-on-deck perspective.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Perform in-process and finished product testing to objectively measure overall quality.
  • Record data in spreadsheet form to be used by management for final product disposition.
  • Maintain organized data by lot codes to create an overall picture of quality throughout the season.
  • Fillet fish both in a fresh and previously frozen state and compare results to industry standards to “quality” grade fish for sales use.
  • Perform a variety of time and temperature testing on in-process and final product.
  • Perform tests to determine chum percentage by lot code.
  • Take and maintain pictures of each lot code, particularly fillets, for internal and final customer use.
  • Manage the collection of samples by lot code for easy off-season access in support of sales activities.
  • Be an active member of both the BRCGS and the HACCP teams.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in all phases of food safety and quality.
  • Work with the QA Manager and staff to identify quality issues and take corrective action.
  • Ensure work is performed in an efficient and safe manner with an emphasis on a zero-accident mentality.
  • Complete all safety training and documentation as required by local, state and federal regulations with emphasis on Coast Guard requirements.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 1 year experience in a regulated food industry, seafood and/or processing experience.
  • HACCP certified or the ability to acquire within the first year if employment continued.
  • Ability to effectively use computers in the support of accurate data entry.
  • Self-directed with the ability to perform general tasks with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Effectively use knives in a safe manner to cut and fillet fish.
  • Ability to work in a cold and wet environment for extended periods of time.
  • Able to prioritize work load and coordinate with the management team to perform efficiently.
  • Ability to solve problems and make clear rational decisions in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to routinely work 12+ hour shifts while occasionally working 16+ during peak season.
  • Positive, all-hands-on-deck attitude.

This job operates primarily on a barge at sea in Bristol Bay and at the dock in Bellingham, WA. This role routinely uses equipment common in measuring quality metrics. Employee must be able to use knives for filleting fish. Additionally, this position will require general knowledge of overall cold chain distribution. Employee must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, crouch, twist, and generally navigate a wet and cold barge environment for long periods of time. Ability to lift 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
