SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is a fast-growing seafood processing company seeking a hands-on, mechanically inclined team player to join us as a Mechanical Assistant. This position supports the Chief Engineer and the broader engineering team in maintaining and repairing critical mechanical systems aboard our processing barge. The Mechanical Assistant plays an essential role in keeping systems operational and responding quickly to issues as they arise. This role is seasonal, with 70+ days spent at sea in Bristol Bay, AK, and may include off-season work at our facility in Bellingham, WA. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of onboard mechanical systems, including:
    • Diesel generators
    • Refrigeration systems
    • Pumps and motors
    • HVAC systems
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • Reverse osmosis water systems
    • Emergency and deck equipment
  • Under the supervision of the Mechanical Lead, help implement preventive maintenance programs and perform routine inspections.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to troubleshoot issues and identify system improvements.
  • Keep clear and accurate logs of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Monitor tools, spare parts, and supplies; assist in inventory management and reordering.
  • Support compliance with all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Contribute to emergency response and urgent repair efforts as needed.
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities and assist with mentoring new team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hands-on experience in mechanical repair, preferably in marine or industrial settings.
  • Familiarity with diesel engines, refrigeration, hydraulics, and similar systems.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Basic documentation and record-keeping abilities.
  • Willingness and ability to work in remote environments for extended durations.
  • Certifications in marine systems, mechanics, or related trades are a plus.
  • Must be safety-minded and able to follow established procedures.
  • Comfortable working long shifts (12+ hours/day, 7 days/week) during the fishing season.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
